about
This song was written in support of a Distractions Media event to raise money for Anxiety Gaming. As an avid gamer dealing with depression and anxiety, I was excited to be a part of this project.
The song borrows imagery from a number of RPGs but the Final Fantasy element is pretty obvious. Role-playing games have been an important part of my life but never showed up in my songs. Not explicitly, anyway. I've been working on an album that shines a light on my relationship to gaming and the early draft of this song seemed a perfect match for this occasion.
Thanks for listening!
lyrics
Am I ready for this?
'Cause here it comes
I shouldn't question myself at this point
but that's just something my brain does
Waiting at the save point before the end
Use a tent to heal myself and all my friends
Check my equipment one more time
Have I advanced enough?
I tell myself I'll be okay
Forget the loot I missed along the way
Check my potions one more time
I've waited long enough
It's all led up to this and I am seeing clear
I didn't crawl a million dungeons just to give up here
I know I am strong enough
And my party's got my back when it gets rough
A cut scene offers an impressive display
An array of tendrils and mouth agape
Furnished with bones and poisonous slime
I hope I remembered to pack enough antidotes this time
Swarming hordes of monsters I've seen before
Different in color, but same familiar gore
It's all I can do to brace myself
But my party is with me at full health
I picked up a copy of Machinarium a couple years ago and immediately fell in love with the game's look and (of course) sound. The soundtrack is super solid on its own and is worth your time and money. Ross Malcolm Boyd
This band is really cool and rocks real good. I mean, just listen to the opener off Apocalipstick. Did you listen yet? It's real good, right? Ross Malcolm Boyd
